Canada's original diversity calendar, each issue focuses on a specific theme which is reflected in the artwork and the textual information.
The Multifaith Calendar combines background information on the major world faiths and the identification of all the holy days and cultural festivals each month.
The Multifaith Calendar is an effective educational tool in school classrooms, government offices and private sector institutions where people of many cultures and faiths seek a more comprehensive and intimate mutual understanding. It is an attractive, modest textbook which, by its artistic nature, invites users into further knowledge and engagement.
2007 Theme - Expressions of Hope
Hope is a profound and universal
part of the human experience. It
is as essential to our well-being, indeed to life itself,
as food, air and water. We have good reason to admire
those who, in the face of an unknown or even threatening
future, sustain confidence in the ultimate triumph of goodness,
justice, and compassion. None of us escape times of
wandering through darkness; grasping for mean ing or clarity. Yet
life takes its fullness from the darkness, the journey towards
the light and the light itself.
We humans draw our inspiration for hope from many sources
such as our spiritual foundations; our elders, our families,
friends and communities; rituals, music, poetry and the visual
arts.
We offer in this edition of The
Multifaith Calendar the expressions of hope by a handful
of visual artists of varying media and cultural backgrounds. Each piece was carefully
selected for its graphic strength as well as its contribution
to the whole. Over sixty artists had initially responded
to our "Call for Submissions" allowing us to choose from
over 230 images! We thank all the artists who volunteered
their visions.
The Multifaith Calendar also provides information about
important dates and celebrations of the major religions and
thus serves as an educational resource.
The intention of the Calendar is that the inspiration in
these images provide glimpses of the Divine in some form
and that the printed information support understanding of
the religious and cultural traditions.
"Hope
is a state of mind, not of the world. Hope,
in this deep and powerful sense, is not the same as joy that
things are going well, or willingness to invest in enterprises
that are obviously heading for success, but rather an ability
to work for something because it is good." Vaclav
